Make-A-Wish® grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories, on average, every 38 minutes. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved – wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.
This year Make-A-Wish® Missouri will be hosting the Make-A-Wish® Walk for Wishes, scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Forest Park. This is a great family-oriented event that includes a 5K run, a family fun walk and endless activities for children. Make-A-Wish®Missouri grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with Hope, Strength and Joy. Make-A-Wish Missouri has granted over 5,000 wishes to date and serves 115 counties in Missouri and 6 counties in Kansas. Last year, here in St. Louis, Make-A-Wish® was able to grant 139 wishes of local children. They are able to do this because of great events like the Run & Walk for Wishes. 80.5 cents of every dollar we raise will aid in the granting of a child with a life-threatening medical condition.
If you have some time, I encourage you to visit the Make-A-Wish® website and read some of the heartwarming stories, as well as how to get involved with this amazing organization.
