The Angel Band Project is a nonprofit organization that began as a benefit album in 2009, after a woman named Teresa Butz was attacked and murdered in her home. Her musically talented family and friends came together to produce an album they hoped would not only help themselves and other victims of sexual violence heal, but would also promote awareness of sexual violence. With the mission to use the power of music and their own experiences to heal, raise awareness, and create positive social change for the survivors and allies of sexual violence, The Angel Band Project grew from creating a benefit album to providing awareness concerts, speaking engagements, live music, and music therapy programs for victims.
As 2014 comes to an end, The Angel Band Project has found another way to spread their mission. On November 22, the Angel Band Project will host the first ever Virtual Choir event. For this event, survivors of domestic and sexual violence will learn a song and be filmed individually. These recordings will then be shown at the live “One Voice” Virtual Choir concert, where they will be accompanied by a choir and instrumentalists. A reception will then follow. The proceeds from this Virtual Choir event will support the Angel Band Project’s music therapy programs.
